Abstract

Performance objectives are essential for the success of any business, but they are particularly important for small businesses, which face greater competitive challenges. This study investigates the applicability and importance of performance objectives in a small business, the X Shirt Factory, located in Unaí, Brazil. A mixed-methods research approach was used, with data collected through questionnaires and interviews. The results showed that the company had defined performance objectives, but these objectives were not clearly aligned with the expectations of consumers. Additionally, the objectives were not systematically evaluated, which could lead to misguided strategic decisions. The study concludes that performance objectives are essential for the success of small businesses, but it is important to ensure that these objectives are clearly defined, aligned with the expectations of consumers, and systematically evaluated
