Abstract

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a chronic condition that reduces functional capacity, reduces quality of life and increases the risk of morbidity and mortality in affected individuals. This research is a narrative review of the literature that seeks to carry out a survey ofarticles that address the theme of the study related to muscle strength, functional tests and physical exercises in patients with PAOD. The electronic search was carried out between February and July 2021 in the databases: LILACS and MEDLINE. Literature points out that patients with PAOD have great physical disability and physiological changes that reduce muscle strength, especially in the lower limbs. From the studies used in this review, it was possible to observe that the main symptom of this pathology is intermittent claudication (IC), which ends up directly affecting daily physical activities. Several tests are cited and widely applied to assess impaired walking and the physical capacity of individuals. of patients. Therefore, physiotherapy is necessary, making the adoption of measures using strength tests and training that can measure the functional capacity and analyze the patient's evolution, forproviding a significant improvement in performance during their daily activities and improving the quality of life and functionality of these individuals.
