Abstract

Extractive Reserves are a category of Conservation Unit and present themselves as an important tool in the conservation of environmental, social and economic resources. Despite the legislative progress, which culminated in the creation of the National System of Conservation Units, in the year 2000, and the new management model that was adopted with the Extractive Reserves in the State of Acre, little progress has been made in the effectiveness of management and conservation of the environment. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the environmental management of Extractive Reserves in the State of Acre, in the period between the years 1990 to 2018, in order to identify whether the new management model instituted by the National System of Conservation Units (SNUC) , has contributed to effective management, with regard to management, environmental preservation and the economy. It was found that the Extractive Reserves in the State of Acre have a historical and environmental contribution, however little effective in terms of management.
