Abstract

Dentigerous cysts are the second most common odontogenic cyst in the jaw. It is a benign lesion derived from the odontogenic epithelium of the coronal part, associated with impacted or impacted dental elements. They are observed during routine exams or when a permanent tooth is not erupting. Its growth is slow and asymptomatic. It occurs mainly in the first three decades of life, with a predilection in male patients and a predominance in Caucasians. The objective of this work is to report the case of a nine-year-old patient, who presented with a symptomatic dentigerous cyst in the left mandibular body region. The surgical approach was performed in a hospital environment under general anesthesia, with enucleation of the lesion and conservation of the associated dental element. After 19 months of follow-up, it was noted that the lower second molar maintained its natural rhizogenesis process, the area handled showed clinical signs of normal color, absence of edema and the patient had no signs of recurrence and no subjective symptoms.
