ABSTRACT
In Brazil, the discussion about exposure of patients on social networks by dentists is of interest to the Federal Council and Regional Councils of Dentistry, which are responsible for, respectively, regulating and supervising the ethical practice of Dentistry. The objective of this study is to analyze, from an ethical-normative perspective, posts with images of patients on the Instagram profile of dentists who perform orofacial harmonization procedures. This research analyzed the Instagram posts of several public profiles of dentists in Brazil. Images were searched using hashtags (orofacial harmonization, botoxdentists and facialbotox). The selected images were analyzed in accordance with the Code of Dental Ethics and Resolution 196/2019, both Federal Council of Dentistry. Forty images were evaluated, and the most frequent ethical infraction was the non-display of the professional registration number in 24 posts (60%). Four (10%) of these posts used written expressions that characterized sensationalism and self-promotion, as follows: "your best version"; "immediate results"; and "botox is life" (in two different publications). Most publications do not follow the standards required by the Code of Dental Ethics and Resolution 196/2019 of the Federal Council of Dentistry, indicating that there is a need to expand the actions of guidelines on the standards for publishing images of patients and the supervision of social networks.
