Abstract

Objective: to verify the rate of tooth loss in normossystemic, hypertensive and diabetic elderly patients. Methods: the study was carried out through the analysis of medical records and collection of information obtained from the anamnesis and dentistry, of patients aged 60 years or over, attended at the Teaching Dental Clinic (COE) of the Evangelical University of Goiás in period 2018 to 2020. Data were analyzed using the “Jamovi Stats Open Now” software, using Fisher's exact test, with a significance level of 5% and a confidence interval of 95%. Results: A total of 87 patients were analyzed, 40 (46%) male and 47 (54%) female. The age group was subdivided into 3 groups, group 1 from 60 to 70 years, which corresponds to 56 (64.4%) patients, group 2 from 71 to 80 years, which corresponds to 22 (25.3%) patients and group 3 of > 80 years, corresponding to 9 (10.3%) patients. Regarding systemic conditions, 33 (37.9%) were patients considered normosystemic, 37 (42.5) patients were classified as hypertensive, 4 (4.6%) patients as diabetic, 10 (11.5%) patients as diabetic and hypertensive patients and other comorbidities referring to 3 (3.4%) patients. Conclusion: Although there was no statistically significant difference between groups, tooth loss was greater in hypertensive and/or diabetic patients compared to normosystemic patients. Demonstrating that systemic changes can lead to greater tooth loss.
