Abstract

This research aims to explore the relationship between student self-concept, the characteristics of academics and their influence on academic performance. For this purpose, a quantitative study was conducted using multiple linear regression analysis with a sample of 170 students from three careers in two regional universities. The results indicate a significant relationship between the variables. First, it was found that a positive self-concept is associated with better academic performance, which underscores the importance of considering psychological and emotional factors in the educational process. Secondly, it was observed that students' perception of their teachers' characteristics, such as adequate handling of subjects, empathy and motivation, has a direct impact on their academic performance. It highlights the need to foster a positive and supportive learning environment for both students and teachers, and to promote a culture of recognition and well-being in educational institutions. Finally, although the study has limitations, its results contribute to the knowledge of how self-concept and the characteristics of academics influence students' academic performance.
