Abstract

Objectives: to describe and characterize the cases of suicide attempt by exogenous intoxication that occurred in a city in the interior of Minas Gerais (MG), Brazil. Also, develop an intervention proposal to control the increase in the number of cases in the city, in addition to improving the notification system for this condition. Method: epidemiological, descriptive study, in which data from the SIH / SUS, made available by DATA / SUS, referring to the city of Coromandel- MG were analyzed, comprising the cases notified in the period between the years 2007 to 2017. Results: Note an increase in the number of cases of attempted suicide due to exogenous intoxication between the year 2010 and 2017, highlighting the interval from 2012 to 2013, which had a 14 times higher number of occurrences. Conclusion: This type of injury has relevance in public health and, therefore, joint actions by civil society and government agencies are essential to ensure the improvement of the quality of mental health of the inhabitants of the municipality.
